Create objects like cristalls based on a pattern

This video shows you how to create 3d objects without necessarily creating triangles.
Method: Slice modifier + “Cap hole”-modifier.

Create basic 3d object out of pattern (Extrude or shell)

Problem triangulated surfaces: Deform with FFD-Box or under “Edit Poly”

Use “slice-modifier” and “cap-holes” for no triangulation and cristall look

Rotate pattern element of surface with “3ptAlign” plugin to create doors or openings in pattern shape

Use “line” as helper to integrate pattern shape in dimension of 3d object

Cut polygon with “cut-function” to create opening

Create opening (delete or detach polygon) and use “shell-modifier” for dimension (visualisation)

Digital production for lasercutter: scale object, use “Reset XForm” and use para3d “disassemble”

Further options for modeling: use “Swift loop” and delete edges
