How to export/exchange Rhino 6 files to twinmotion 2019

Basic setup 3d file:

• Set up units to meters (tolerance = 0.001 units)
• Window glas should be single surfaces, not double surface or box
• Position 3d model in the origin XYZ of your file

Layerstructure:

• Sublayers are fine but will not be transferred as sublayers
• Import into twinmotion by material name

Reorganize your materials:

• delete delete double materials (Materials/delete selected Materials)
• set up clear material names reffering to your layer/objects
• set up distinctive  and different colours
• apply material to every (sub)layer: on material/right mouse klick/”assign to layer”
• Use layermaterial for all objects: select all objects + Properties/material/”Use layer material”

Export format: motion builder .FBX

• set “Fewer and more polygons”

Settings:

• Import as “collaps by material”
• apply materials on “isolate selected object” level
• Use “two sided” material setting for every material

UV setting for issues with material:

• change from “object UV” to “cubic UV” if you have issues
• Assign the material again after changing the UV settings!
• Possible mapping mistakes: material is not “two sides”, wrong layer assignment in Rhino…

Update Twinmotion when you changed 3d modell in Rhino:

• overwrite Export FBX (same name) and update in Twinmotion
• Different appereance with low or more polygons before export

Material setting: change single to material multi view to apply material more easily

Export as sketchup (.SKP) from Rhino: see issues with wrong material assignment
