Rhino: How to create planar objects with Loft

Create closed curves based on grid

Loft for planar objects

• Change viewport to “Flat Shade”
• Loft: adjust seams and use “straight sections”

Create planar mesh objects:

• Convert polysurface to mesh: “fewer polygons”
• “Triangulate non planar quads”

Check polysurface for planarity

• convert mesh to polysurface “”MeshToNurbs”
• Explode polysurface
• Select planar polysurfaces: “SelPlanSrf”

Reduce mesh for digital production

• Check Details: “object discription”
• “ReduceMesh” to set polygon count

Design variations of curves

• Change controlpoints of curves to different hights
• Scale curves

Close top curve of loft with surface, create and Reduce Mesh

• use patch and increase “Surface spans”
• This method is not perfect. Better close with single polysurfaces after meshreduce.

Deform any shape with “Cage edit”

• amount of control points in XYZ is important. Less is more!
• Degree defines the smoothness of cage deformation

Create further openings and give materialthickness with “OffsetMesh”
